We tried Ranada’s Kitchen on Friday, 8/21 and it did not disappoint! If Chef Ranada sounds familiar to you but Ranada’s Kitchen doesn’t, that’s because Ranada’s Kitchen is a new concept from Chef Ranada Riley. Offering a weekly menu including a variety of family meals, shareables, and solo servings, her new restaurant is located in the heart of Chevy Chase at 312 S. Ashland Ave. between Starbucks and John’s New Classic Shoes.

But this isn’t Chef Ranada’s first rodeo. She was a co-owner and chef at Lexington Diner for several years before opening Ranada’s Bistro and Bar in late 2018. Ranada’s Bistro and Bar was one of only a few Lexington restaurants that pivoted very quickly during the pandemic to offer delivery and family meals to-go. They were a huge hit and wildly popular on social media.

While Chef Ranada’s last two restaurant ventures included other investors or partners as co-owners, Ranada’s Kitchen is all her own. Or, as she succinctly put it in a video on her Facebook page before opening, “..it’s all on me.”

Ordering was super easy! We simply gave Ranada’s Kitchen a phone call at 859-687-1000 in the morning to place our order and let them know what time we wanted to pick it up. When we arrived we called them again and everything was brought to our car, hot and fresh! They even loaded it in!

We ordered the Bourbon Trail Fried Chicken family meal which included crispy bourbon fried chicken breasts accompanied by bourbon Dijon mustard, hot pepper honey, and pickled onions. The family meal also came with a fresh salad, bread, garlic smashed red potatoes, chef’s veggies, and a dessert. For the night we ordered, dessert was a decadent bread pudding! We also ordered Ranada’s Herbed Whipped Feta appetizer with apples, berries and toast points, which is an all-time favorite on the Ranada’s Kitchen menu. Last but not least, we also tried the Weisenberger Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer. This appetizer came with roasted red pepper coulis, southern chow chow and buttermilk ranch. Chef Ranada has a way of elevating comfort food to a whole new level and this meal was no exception! Dinner was EXCELLENT and the fried green tomatoes were the star of the appetizer show leaving everyone wanting more. Absolutely A-MAZ-ING!

Meals to-go and delivery aren’t the only things in store at Ranada’s Kitchen. She’s also getting ready for indoor seating, grab-and-go, boutique catering, cooking classes and more. You can connect with Ranada’s Kitchen on Facebook, Instagram, or via their website.
